Text | [from Frank Brunell's column] There is an important scoring point yet to be covered. In the summaries of games the item “earned runs” is always calculated under the head of teams making them, and when two pitchers officiate against the team there is no means of knowing from newspaper scores just who has been punished for th earned runs. The way to calculate earned runs is under the heads of pitchers off whom they are made, or on this plan: “Earned runs—St. Louis (off Brown 2, off Smith 4). |
