The Philadelphia Inquirer, May 5, 1863 prints a May 2, 1863 letter in the New York Times, about actions near Fredericksburg, VA:

"While some pickets of the Flying Division were engaged in ball playing this morning, in front of the ruins of the Barnard House, the Rebels commenced throwing shells at them, but did no damage."

The Barnard (Bernard) house is just south of the town.
