Text

The New York Sunday Mercury, Nov. 3, 1861 reports that on Oct. 28th, near Fairfax, VA, members of Company I of the Mozart Regiment (40th NY), "partly composed of ball-players," defeated a picked nine from the rest of the regiment.

The regiment wasn't musical, but rather named after the Mozart Hall wing of the NYC Democratic Party.
